A hydromedusa having certain characteristics and hence referred to the leptolid Subclass Anthoathecatae (Cnidaria); formerly the medusae and the hydroids referred to this subclass were classified separately, as the groups Anthomedusae and Athecata.
When medusae are being discussed alone, the words anthomedusa and athecate are still useful but, following the merged classification adopted recently, and followed here neither should be used as a formal taxon.
