Description
Female head bluntly rounded; male head slightly pointed. First segment of female antennular flagellum (a1) short and about as long as the peduncle; four distal sensory chaetae. Second segment of male antennular flagellum (a1) straight; its spinal extension almost as long as second segment.
First gnathopod with basis almost as long as wide, the frontal margin convex; segments 3-6 short and firm, propodus with frontal and hind margin each provided with a spine.
Second gnathopod with narrow basis (compared to first gnathopod); dactylus longer than dactylus of first gnathopod. Propodus with distal spine on hind margin; dactylus as long as propodus, with two serrated extensions of unequal length and with a small spine in between.
Pereiopods 3-6 firm; hind and front margin of segment both extended into a tooth.
Pereiopods 5-6 with basis wider in male than in female. Pereiopod 5 longer than all other pereiopods; basis widened distally.
Pereiopod 7 with last segment as long as basis.
Uropods with lancet-shaped branches.
Telson about as long as the peduncle of uropod 3.
Size
Length of male 6 mm, female 5 mm.
Depth range
Surface to deep water.
Distribution in the North Sea
Northern North Sea.
World distribution
N Atlantic Ocean, between about 20 and 68°N.
