Description
Larval body relatively large and transparent. In the 6-tentacle stage, there are two pigment spots located on both sides of the apical plate; later, pigmentation occurs also on the end of the tentacles. There are no more than 6 pairs of larval tentacles, the definitive tentacles appear at the end of the 10-tentacle stage as thickenings in the wall of the larval tentacles. There are three sanguinary globules, two on each side of the single stomach diverticulum, and one on the ventral midline, just above the insertion of the tentacles (Emig, 1982).

Maximum size ca. 0.7 mm.

Remark
A. sabatieri is the larva of Phoronis psammophila Cori, 1889; the name is kept as a technical name and is used for the larva only.

Distribution in the North Sea
The adult P. psammophila is known from sandy sediments, including sandy mud and sand with a coarse fraction, usually from shallow depths (4-7 m). It is recorded from the German Bight. The larva A. sabatieri (...)
