Family characters
Adult mantle elongate and pointed posteriorly; fins broad and lanceolate. Proximal portion of tentacle clubs with numerous rows of small suckers; tip of dactylus with distinct oval suckers. Tentacle stalk with alternating rows of suckers and pads. Funnel locking cartilage simple and straight. The buccal connectives attach to ventral borders of arms IV. Arms with two rows of suckers. Ocular photophores present in some species.
The present volume includes one species of the Family Brachioteuthidae: Brachioteuthis riisei
