Description
Nectophore [Vogtia spinosa ]: roughly five-pointed and flattened. Numerous gelatinous teeth are arranged along the ridges and on the dorsal and lateral facets. Up to sixteen nectophores are present in the polygastric stage, but they fit loosely together and are easily broken off.
Juveniles: the nectosac of the larval nectophore has four radial canals, cf. Genus Hippopodius, but they are frequently difficult to discern.

Size
Nectophore up to 20 mm in diameter.

Depth range
By day Vogtia spinosa occurs mainly at depths between 300 and 500 m.

Distribution in the North Sea
Along the shelf break W of Scotland, possibly in the northern parts of the North Sea.

World distribution
A widespread species throughout the World’s oceans.
