Description
Umbrella bell-shaped [Coryne eximia ] , little higher than wide; jelly moderately thick; velum broad. Four radial canals and ring canal narrow; radial canals enter marginal tentacle bulbs on adaxial side.
Marginal tentacle bulbs large and oval, each with a large rounded ocellus. Four perradial marginal tentacles, each with many small clusters and large terminal cluster of nematocysts [C.eximia-medusa ].
Manubrium cylindrical, about as long as bell cavity when fully extended; mouth circular, simple.
Gonads continuous, completely surrounding manubrium from base [C.eximia-male ].
Young medusa: C.eximia-newly.
Size
Umbrella up to 4 mm high.
Colour
[C.eximia-male-habitus ] Marginal tentacle bulbs red to reddish brown; manubrium either reddish or greenish; ocelli crimson, but black or dark brown in young medusae.
Ecology and depth range
Neritic.

Coastal waters of the North Sea.
World distribution
N Atlantic Ocean including Mediterranean Sea; S Atlantic and Indo-Pacific Oceans.
