Tomopteris septentrionalis

Description
Body short with 17-24 long parapodia [T.septentrionalis-pp]. Body tapering posteriorly, but without tail. No rosette organs.
Prostomium with four small incisions anteriorly. Eyes large.
Length of cirriform appendages of the second segment at least half the body length.

Size
Commonly about 20 mm in length, although oceanic specimens attain a length of 30 mm or more.

Colour
Transparent.

Depth range
Pelagic.

Distribution in the North Sea
All North Sea, including Skagerrak and Kattegat; also Baltic Sea.

World Distribution
Oceanic, world-wide; in the NE Atlantic also near Faeroes and Iceland.
