Description
Carapace of female with denticles in transverse rows on the frontal lobe and less densely behind; in the male only two or three denticles, two flanking the frontal lobe and sometimes one, as in the female, on the eyelobe. Eye small but with lenses.
Pereionite 5 with posterolateral corners little produced in female and not greatly in male. Telson in the female distinctly shorter than the uropod peduncles, with three or four pairs of lateral spines, longer and narrower in the male. Basis of pereiopod 1 shorter than rest of appendage, the carpus, propodus and dactyl nearly equal to each other. Pereiopod 2 with carpus a little longer than the dactyl, which is distinctly longer than the propodus.
Telson long, postanal part narrowed, with several pairs of lateral spines.

Length up to 8 mm.

Ecology
Deeper shelf and slope.

Depth range
Mainly on the shelf, recorded between about 15 and 800 m.

Distribution in the North Sea
Southern and northern North Sea.

World distribution
A Boreal species found from the Barents Sea to the English Channel, It also occurs in the W Atlantic off southern Newfoundland and Maine.
