Description
Generally similar to Diastylis but with a shorter telson having few lateral spines or none. Male antenna 1 with the peduncle dilated, its third segment not the longest and provided with a brush of setae distally. Male antenna 2 shorter than the body. Pereiopods 3 and 4 of female with rudimentary exopodites. Exopod of uropods not longer than the endopod.
Pseudorostrum of female short but with a distinct antennal notch below. Carapace broad, with scattered hairs. Anteroventral edges with regular serrations. Eyelobe very small. Pereionites 1 and 2 of fully adult female produced forwards in a pair of submedian tooth-like processes but not in immature individuals. Telson shorter than pleonite 6, with one pair of small lateral spines. Pereiopod 1 not very long, with basis much more than half as long as rest of appendage. Pereiopod 2 with dactyl less than twice as long as the propodus and about as long as the carpus. Uropod peduncles about twice as long as the telson, excluding its end spines; endopod with proximal segment nearly as long as second and third combined. The adult male has not been described.

Northern North Sea, Skagerrak.
World distribution
A boreal species recorded from the North Sea to N Norway and from the Gulf of Maine.
