Description
Adult. Very similar to Sepiola atlantica, though distinguished immediately by the ventral surface of the mantle, which bears a deep U-shaped cleft in its anterior edge. Maximum mantle length is 15 mm. All arms with just two rows of suckers. Right dorsal arm of male is equipped with an additional copulatory apparatus comprised of two small tongue-like outgrowths in basal part of arm. Club suckers are small, equal in size in both dorsal and ventral rows.
Juvenile [Sepiola-hatch]. Description not available. Hatchlings come out as miniature adults (see Lu et al., in Sweeney et al., 1992, p. 21.). The identification characters for juveniles are hence similar to those that are used for the identification of adults.

Total length ca. 4 cm, maximum mantle length 1.5 cm.

Outer shelf, 200-400 m.
