Diagnosis
Body with distinct coxal plates on the pereion somites 2-7. Pleon with five distinct somites, the sixth (the uropodal somite) is fused with the telson. Pereiopods without hooks. Mouthparts not modified. The uropods are laterally situated, not arching dorsally and together with the pleotelson a terminal fan. Usually free-living, but also feeding on fish and scavenging; occasionally found in the plankton [p-Cirolanidae].
