Description
— Genetic features. Closely related to the Genus Mysis. Michtheimysis is mainly separated by the form of the antennal scale, which terminates in a strong spine-like apex whereas the apex in Mysis is rounded.
Exopod of third male pleopod short, 4-6 segmented; endopod unsegmented; endopod of fourth pleopod 2-segmented; fifth pleopod rudimentary, uniramous but 2-segmented. Telson cleft.

Maximum length: 16-18 mm.
Depth range
Shallow; on fine clay to gravel.
Remarks
Tattersall and Tattersall, 1951: the genera Neomysis and Acanthomysis are separated on precisely similar differences in the antennal scale (as Mysis and Michtheimysis). The separation in this case, however, can be justified on the grounds of convenience, since each genus has grown to somewhat unwieldy proportions with the continued addition of new species. The Genus Mysis in its widest sense includes at present only eight species, and the ground of convenience cannot be urged for its division into two genera: Mysis and Michtheimysis.

Off W Norway, Skagerrak, also Wadden Sea and Baltic Sea.
World distribution
North Atlantic 64-78°N, Baltic, Arctic Ocean; coastal to shelf.
